Castle Acre 2017-12-20T12:34:21+00:00

Project Description

Castle Acre:

This pretty village takes its name from the walled castle built in the 12th-century by the Normans. It lies four miles north of Swaffham at the point where the river Nar is crossed by an ancient route known as the Peddars Way.

The castle ruins are free to visit and make a great playground for children (and dogs) but if you want a little more history the Cluniac Priory and St James Church are worth a visit. When you’re in need of refreshment our favourite tearoom can be found next to The Ostrich pub, though check opening times as it is closed 3 days a week. For more information see here.
