Walsingham (and its snowdrops)

If you want to take a step back in time we recommend a visit to Walsingham, colloquially known as the Nazareth of England.  In medieval times Walsingham rivalled Canterbury and the great shrines of Europe with most Kings and Queens of England having made a pilgrimages here.Today, more than 300,000 people visit the village each year to visit the two shrines and seek peace and tranquillity in one of the many retreats. But that’s not the only reason to visit. The village is  quaint and unspoilt with lovely traditional tea rooms, pubs and eateries dotted between shops selling religious icons and paraphernalia.

It’s also home to Walsingham Abbey, now in ruins but previously the medieval Priory of our Lady of Walsingham. Whilst well worth a visit at any time of year, the 20 acres of woodland are an unrivalled and truly stunning display of snowdrops from the end of January to early March. Snowdrop Walks take place every day through the flowering season and you can also buy a wide variety of plants “in the green” from the shop.  If you need a Spring pick-me-up, this is it!
